Salalah: The Environment Authority (EA) has planted 500 frankincense trees in the Wilayat of Salalah, Dhofar Governorate.

During the first phase, 500 frankincense trees were planted, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the Nature Conservation Society under establishment, and the local community.

The Environment Authority, represented by the General Directorate of Environment in Dhofar Governorate, began the first phase planting of frankincense trees in the Frankincense Garden in the Mudam area. Initially, 500 trees will be planted in conjunction with the national initiative to plant 10 million trees and to achieve the plan of planting 60,000 wild trees in the current year.

The frankincense garden in the Mudam area in Salalah is among the group of environmental parks planned to preserve the most important wild trees in the Dhofar Governorate. The garden can accommodate more than 11,000 trees over an area of 181,000 square metres.

The initiative, which came in cooperation with the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources, the Nature Conservation Society, and the local community, aims to intensify and expand vegetation cover as part of a series of programmes to combat desertification and ensure the protection and sustainability of natural resources.
